What is Massage Therapy?
Massage Therapy is the practice of applying pressure, tension, motion,
or vibration manually to the soft tissues of the body, including muscles,
connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, joints and lymphatic vessels.
With the goal to achieve a beneficial therapeutic response to make the
soft tissue more pliable, promoting increased blood flow and healing.
What to expect
We will begin with a brief patient history and assessment of your
condition to give us an idea where we should focus our treatment.
You will then be asked to undress in private and drape yourself
with a sheet provided by the therapist. The only clothing you should
leave on is your underwear and/or loose fitting shorts. You will then
lie down on a comfortably padded massage table. The therapist will
undrape only the part of your body being massaged, insuring that
your modesty is respected at all times. Your therapist relies on your
feedback so pressure can be adjusted to your liking. If your therapist
wants you to change your position, he or she will either move you
or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your
position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Any time
during the treatment do not hesitate to ask questions. This will
help you learn the many benefits of various massage techniques.
